Mussaenda Erythrophilla is native West African evergreen flowering shrub which are spread all over the world now. In Indonesia, commonly known as Nusaindah. The plant grows best in subtropical places and warm temperature. The shrub scrambles on the ground or creeps the tree up to 5 meters high. The bracts of the plant has exotic leaf-shape in a red color that is very different from other “red colors”. This plant is also called as Ashanti Blood or Red Flag Flower.

Mussaenda Erythrophilla adalah asli Afrika Barat berupa semak hijau sepanjang masa yang tersebar di seluruh dunia sekarang. Di Indonesia, umumnya dikenal sebagai Nusaindah. Tanaman ini tumbuh di tempat-tempat subtropis dan paling baik di tempat-tempat bersuhu hangat.
Semak ini bergulung-gulung di tanah atau merayap di pohon hingga 5 meter tingginya. Kelopak bunga memiliki bentuk eksotis seperti daun dalam warna merah yang sangat berbeda dari “warna merah” lainnya. Tanaman ini juga disebut sebagai Blood Ashanti atau Bunga Bendera Merah.

Poinsettia ( Euphorbia pulcherrima) doesn’t belong to this family which is indigenous to Mexico and Central America. People called it as Christmas stars. The leaves are smooth and delicate. The above plant has very short soft furry surface and grows wild :-). Thank you, Kris.

Thank you very much,Kathleen. This species of plants has variety bracts’ colors like poinsettias. Many of them grow wild in forest areas around my country. These pictures were taken at the tip of a toll road near my house.

Beautiful red colour against the green. I think I have seen this plant in a shrub like form and with peach, or cream coloured bracts as well as the red ones.
