The CANNON BALL tree

Couroupita Guianensis grows up to more than 30 meters in height with the clustered leaves from 8 to 30 centimeters and the flowers are borne from the trunk in large bunches up to 10 meters long. Some trees flower profusely, until the entire trunk is buried in flowers.

The flowers are strongly scented at night and also in the morning. The size of the flower is large from 8 to 12 centimeters wide, the six petals in shade of pink and red near the base and yellowish toward the tips with a ring of stamens at the center and arrangement to stamens that looks like sea anemones.

The fruit is large, measuring to 25 centimeters in diameter. Woody and very spherical that makes the tree’s name called as Cannon Ball tree.

Couroupita Guianensis tumbuh hingga lebih dari 30 meter tingginya dengan daun berkerumun 8-30 cm dan bunga-bunga yang tersusun pada batang di tandan besar dengan panjang hingga 10 meter. Beberapa pohon berbunga sangat lebat, sampai seluruh batang terkubur oleh bunga. Mereka sangat wangi di malam hari dan juga di pagi hari. Ukuran bunganya besar 8 sampai 12 cm lebar, enam kelopak dalam warna merah muda dan merah dekat dasar dan kekuningan menuju ujung dengan cincin benang sari di pusat dan susunan benang sari yang terlihat seperti anemon laut.
Buah ini besar, berukuran 25 cm diameter. keras dan sangat bulat yang membuat nama pohon ini disebut sebagai pohon Peluru meriam.
