Living in a big city with a variety of demands, including the needs of fashion, such as shoes and other footwear often becomes the basic need to do everyday activities. At least, you must have 2 pairs of shoes with models and quality that is aligned with your purchase.
But what happen if you have a pair of shoes need to be repaired? In Indonesia, only in some major cities has shoe repair shops, they open shoe repair business like other shoe stores. But if you live someplace where there is no such shop, then the solution is to call a roving cobbler, which is commonly called Tukang Sol Sepatu.
They are numerous, from old to young, they wander around your residence to offer his services of repairing shoes. They also do repair for handbags, belts, leather jackets, etc.
They do repair things by hand, simple and very cheap. If you need a replacement shoes on the soles, they also provide the replacement parts, although the quality of the material used will not be as equal to the original one.
When he is passing in front of your house, he would yell out loud with longer tone, “SOL”…. There he is, a roving cobbler. If your shoes are broken, hurry up to call him before missed.

Haa. Today I am at home and have seen four of them passing my house. The above picture was the one repairing my daughters’ shoes and sandals yesterday. She paid US$.2.00 for 5 pairs repaired. 🙂

Here it sometimes seems cheaper to buy a new pair of shoes. Repairs can be so costly.

I believe so. It is same as here when we come to repair shops. So as the alternatives, people more prefer to call the roving cobbler.

Sometimes the repairs are BETTER than the originals. Except both shoes need to fixed the same, so they will continue to match.
i have an old friend whose legs/feet are not the same. It is a cobbler who alters one of her shoes so that she is comfortable and can move normally. The shoes seem to still be the same, but one is actually very different. Those living humble lives are sometimes unrecognized Angels and Healers. I am glad to see your Roving Cobbler recognized.

My youngest daughter’s legs are normal but any shoes no last longer under her feet, two or three months later after purchase they are broken or messed up! When I told him about this matter, he inspected and observed carefully to some pairs of her shoes and then her legs/ feet as well, he said that there was nothing wrong with her feet. He asked my daughter to show how she walks as she normally does. Finally the cobbler found the cause and he told my daughter to better the way she walks, he gave short instruction and several patterns to position her feet for better steps and said ” I hope your shoes will stay longer than three months” – he smile.
This young cobbler told me that he used to work for a shoe factory for many years before he decided to choose his profession as a roving cobbler. He was amazing! I hope my daughter will listen to him because I just want to stop spending too much money for her shoes.

I think you are teasing that you do not want to no spend that money. I don’t think you mind, at all 😉
But walking correctly is important to help with life-long health. Maybe if you promise her EXTRA pairs of NICE shoes, more than she needs, if she can make the old ones last three months and still be in good shape … then she might practice the exercises. Or not? 🙂
Perhaps new shoes will remain in the budget, but walking technique will improve? Could less back and spine trouble, when she is older, be a possible benefit?

Hahaha, Once I bought her three pairs all at once from one of very best trademark costing four times the price we usually pay for each. the result was the same, only three months.
I told the cobbler about her shoes and about my complaint. I don’t know if his advice will work, but at least my daughter has to try it.
