Many people assume photographing flowers is easy! just look at the viewfinder, place the focus point, and press the shutter … finished! Later, what happened to the result?… the photos don’t tell anything.
So,… what does the photo have to tell about?…
You are absolutely right !… It must tell us its beauty.
Here, I was trying to capture the beauty of some flowers that are a bit difficult to photograph. Why?… It just because they emerged in an environment that were very hard to be isolated, too many leaves around.
This Fire Lily (Clivia Miniata) grows in my country with slightly different than in its country of origin. the leaves grow up taller than its bloom’s stalk.
Similar condition to the above. This Water Hyacinth ( Eichhornia crassipes) flowers are always surrounded by many leaves.
The Water Liies ( Numphaea) grow in a swampy wilderness
The Orchid phalaenopsis hybrid on the tree
to be continued

I understand – I love photographing flowers but there are some that I’ve repeatedly tried but still haven’t discovered the secret. But I will continue to think about them and try again. These really do display their beauty – great job.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Pat. Some of many things you can do is to look at it closely and isolate it from unnecessary things surround it. e,g : leaves, weeds, etc. and of course the lens you are using…. those above was take with 18 -105mm lens in opening F stop 8. Avoid strong light on the sybject. Hope it helps.. But It all depends upon light condition.

I love photographing flowers, but I’m so terrible at it, haha. It doesn’t help that I don’t have a proper macro lens either. Can’t wait for summer to come around though, so I can go out and practice photographing some flowers.

Well,..Don’t give up… hahaha. I use 18 – 105mm lens that is not a macro. or you can use 20-200mm one that will work good too. Both lenses can blur the background. In certain condition when enough lighting, overcast situation is perfect for photographing flowers. Thank you very much for sharing your great words.

Thanks for the tips. One day when I have enough time and money, I might take a photography course, because I feel a bit lost when it comes to settings and what lenses to use for what. Haha.

You are most welcome my dear friend. but remember, the camera doesn’t always the matter. it was who behind it. Good luck then.. 🙂

Yes, it’s hard to get a really nice photograph oftentimes when there’s so much going on in the background. But you have always been good at marrying the technical with the artistic and you succeed, again and again. I love the Clivia – so beautiful. Looking forward to more. (Come see a few tropical flowers in my latest blog post, from a conservatory in Seattle!). https://bluebrightly.com/

Terima Kasih bluepurplegarden. You are right. it is Anggrek bulan. I was wrong mentioning that species. Thank you very much for your correction. Best wishes.

Setuju, Pak. Memotret bunga itu nggak gampang karena keindahan dan roh bunganya juga harus ditangkap dalam jepretan kamera
